Those rules are described as “disposable,” meaning they get created, used, and discarded as the threat changes. The idea is that by the time a bot operator has figured out how to get around a rule, that rule is already gone and a new one is in place. The attacker has to keep spending time and money retooling. Eventually, the attack simply costs more than it’s worth.

Why this matters if you run a site

For most small site owners, bot traffic is a quiet tax. It inflates your visitor numbers without adding value, eats into any bandwidth limits on your hosting plan, and can slow your site down during spikes.
